Myrtle Esther Hotchkiss, age 91, of Brownstown, Indiana, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at St. Vincent's Heart Center, Indianapolis, Indiana. She was an active member of the Brownstown Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for several decades. She retired from the United States Postal Service after 37 years. She was a member and past matron of Eastern Star #264 of Brownstown. Born on January 5, 1923, in Brownstown, Indiana, she was the daughter of S.M. and Myrtle Lockman Hotchkiss, both of whom preceded in death. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, Thelma Jo Sterling, Joe (Jan) Waskom, Jane Terrell, Joe Sullivan, Mary Beth Sutton, David (Linda) Hotchkiss, Sam Hotchkiss and John Sullivan. She is also survived by her care giver, Lori Barnett. Other than her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Hartley Hotchkiss and S.M. Hotchkiss, Jr., and four sisters, Virginia Summa, Grace Sullivan, Mary E. Hotchkiss and Ruth Jane Waskom. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Brownstown Christian Church, with Doug Pogue officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the Brownstown Christian Church. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown, Indiana. Memorials may be given to the Brownstown Christian Church Building Fund or Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary.
