Norma Jean McCord, age 89, of Seymour, passed away in the early morning hours on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Lutheran Community Home, Seymour.
Norma was baptized into Christ on July 5, 1936, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, and later confirmed in her faith on April 2, 1950, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Columbus. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 37:4, "Delight thyself in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." A faithful and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, Norma especially enjoyed attending Bible studies led by the pastors. She was also a dedicated supporter of Immanuel Lutheran School's Faith in Our Future campaign.
Norma graduated from Indiana Business College and went on to work as a secretary at Cummins Engine Co., where she spent many dedicated years of service before retiring.
Known for her generosity and strong work ethic, Norma devoted much of her time volunteering at the Jackson County Clothing Center and Lutheran Community Home, where she compassionately assisted the residents by helping with wheelchair transport.
Norma was a proud member of the Eastern Star and a dedicated supporter of the Jackson County Humane Society. A lifelong animal lover, she and her husband raised three pairs of West Highland Terrier sisters, who brought them tremendous joy over the years.
Norma had a deep love for traveling with her husband, especially treasuring their journeys to Ireland, across Europe, and to Hawaii. She also found great enjoyment in reading.
Born on May 12, 1936, in Seymour, Norma was the daughter of Estel and Leona (Brinkman) Kerrick, both of whom preceded her in death. On February 25, 1956, she married Clinton Earl McCord. They spent 58 happy years together until Clint's passing on July 13, 2014.
Survivors include one niece, Susan Burton of Lafayette.
Norma was also preceded in death by one sister, Doris (Jadia) Burton; and one brother, Karl Kerrick.
Funeral services for Norma Jean McCord will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, with Pastor William G. Fredstrom officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour.
Memorials may be given to Jackson County Humane Society.
Interment will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
