Pearl Brittain, Jr., age 89, of Norman, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Brittain was a devoted member of Liberty Christian Church for many years, serving faithfully as both a Deacon and Trustee.
Pearl worked at Curry and Sons Farm and Finley Lumber Co. before retiring from the Jackson County Highway Department after more than 30 years of dedicated service.
Pearl cherished his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He had a deep love for the Western way of life and was an avid fan of Western movies and television shows. He also enjoyed country living and working on the farm. Among his fondest memories was his childhood growing up in the coal camps in Kentucky.
Born on August 15, 1936, in Harlan, Kentucky, Pearl was the son of Pearl and Sophia (Davidson) Brittain, both of whom preceded him in death. On December 25, 1957, he married Gloria Faye Fisher, and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2005. In June of 2012, he married Ruth Nelson, and she survives in Norman.
Survivors also include two sons: Timothy (Delema) Brittain of Norman, and Mark Brittain of Norman; one daughter, Linda Jane Watson of Norman; two stepsons: Sam (Elaine) Hillenburg of Washington, D.C. and Phil (Leah) Hillenburg of Norman; nine grandchildren: Josh (Stacy) Brittain, Jordan (Lynnzi) Brittain, Heather (Jacob) Gray, Steven (Whitney) Watson, Whitley (Michael) Ferguson, Hollie (Derek) Ocker, Philip Hillenburg, Heather Hillenburg, and Daniel Hillenburg; 22 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Barbara Burns.
Mr. Brittain was also preceded in death by one grandson, Mason Watson: one great-grandchild, Kasee Allman; two brothers: Thaddus Brittain and Harry Brittain; and seven sisters: Athalen Smith, Laughvon Patrick, Bea Petry, Martha Hughes, Marry Helen Bowling, May Burns, and Wanda Moore.
Funeral services for Pearl Brittain, Jr. will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Ronnie Plummer officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
Interment will follow at Liberty Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Liberty Christian Church or Liberty Cemetery Fund.
