Phyllis (Beck) Green, age 97, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 30, 2026, surrounded by her family and leaving behind a legacy of unwavering love, quiet strength, and extraordinary grace.

Phyllis was the heart of her family and truly embodied the essence and depth of the matriarch. Her life was defined not by what she sought for herself, but by what she gave to others. She loved without condition, sacrificed without hesitation, and cared for those around her with a selflessness that seemed to know no limits. She found great joy in traveling with her loved ones and preparing meals that brought everyone together.

Born on September 5, 1928, in Indianapolis, Phyllis was the daughter of John C. Beck and Mildred Timbrook, both of whom preceded her in death. On August 31, 1946, she married Richard Howard Green, also from Indianapolis. Together they built a beautiful family and through hard work, they created a life filled with travel, adventure, and cherished memories. Eventually, Richard’s career brought them to Brownstown, the community they would proudly call home. Phyllis enjoyed a career in the Jackson County Clerk’s Office where she was known for her kindness, dedication, and strong work ethic.

Phyllis endured profound heartbreak, having been preceded in death by her beloved husband and all three of her children: Marianne Green, Richard Allen Green, and John Patrick Green. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Bibler. Her remarkable resilience in all that loss became one of her greatest gifts to those she leaves behind.

Survivors include two daughters-in-law: Debra (Pohl) Green and Cindy (Coker) Green; grandchildren: Milly (Justin) Green-Tankersley, Jenny (Andy) Green Lane, and Austin (Eraj Sikanar) Green; two great-great grandchildren: Nadia Lane and Henry Lane; and one step-great grandchild: Addison Tankersley. Phyllis will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the love she gave so freely. Her influence will continue to guide the family for generations.

Mrs. Green was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church for many years, where she served with dedication alongside her daughter, Pastor Marianne Green, and built lasting friendships. Phyllis will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Cemetery, aside her family, with a private family and friends graveside service. Memorials may be given to Mt. Zion Church.
