Richard R. "Phil" Robertson, age 78, Brownstown, passed away at 8:52 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2013, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour. Richard was a member of Brownstown Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve with the rank of colonel. He retired as president of Robertson Corp. He held numerous offices at Brownstown Presbyterian Church. He was involved with the Society for Preservation of Old Mills and a consultant on restoration of old mills, most recently the Beck's Mill in Salem. He enjoyed birdwatching and collected and restored old phonographs. He served on many boards and committees and was active in community affairs, which included director emeritus of Schneck Hospital Foundation. He most recently was secretary of the Fairview Cemetery Association and Fairview Cemetery Foundation. He was a mentor to various Scout troops. Born on August 20, 1934, in Jackson County, he was the son of Richard S. and DeAlba Brodhecker Robertson, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 25, 1957, in Brownstown, he married Ruth Horstman, who survives. Other survivors include one son, R. Andrew (Sheryl) Robertson, Columbus; one daughter, Susan Robertson, Orlando, Fla.; one brother, John H. (Ruth) Robertson, Brownstown; one sister, Mary Sue (Larry) Spurgeon, Brownstown; and three grandchildren, Cameron Robertson, Carly Robertson and Jack Robertson, all of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at Brownstown Presbyterian Church, with Brad Napier and Duane Aelick officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Veterans 7. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Spurgeon Funeral Home Inc., Brownstown, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to Brownstown Presbyterian Church or the Presbyterian Chaplain Fund through Spurgeon Funeral Home Inc.
