Roger Dale Holman, age 70, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, March 23, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Holman was a member of Mount Eden Christian Church. Roger was a compassionate man, always eager to assist anyone in need. His love for his family was immense, and he especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren. Roger dedicated 44 years to the Jackson County Highway Department before retiring. He was also a committed member of the Eagles for 10 years. He had a great love for his dogs, Little Man and Shorty. He also cherished hunting trips with his son and enjoyed spending time in his garden. Gardening was especially meaningful to Roger, as he always grew an abundance of produce, sharing the surplus with family, friends, and those in need. An avid collector, Roger had a particular fondness for guns and watches, especially railroad pocket watches. He also had a passion for John Deere, which was an important aspect of his life. Born on April 8, 1954, in Seymour, Roger was the son of Edward and Emma (Spall) Holman, both of whom preceded him in death. Survivors include one son, Cory (Lacy) Holman of Campbellsburg; two daughters: Winter (Jerad) Sporleder of Seymour, and Angela Wingler; long-time girlfriend, Gwen Bohall of Brownstown; grandchildren: Kaylyn, Koby, Payton, and Rylee Holman on the way; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Elmer (Olive) Holman, Raymond (Walena) Holman, and Bob (Wanda) Holman; four sisters and two brothers-in-law: Mary Weaver, Norma Fish, Betty (Randy) Beach, and Roberta (Tim) Boling; Gwen's children: John Bohall (Wanda White), Stephanie (Thomas) Cantelme, Crystal Hampton, and Briana (Keaton) Gay; Gwen and Roger's grandchildren: Hanna (Collin) Kongas, Austin Cantelme, and Joey Hampton (Jaylee Walker); Gwen and Roger's great-grandchildren: Kaselynn Gay, Parker Gay, Emmalynn Gay, Harper Hampton, and Lacie Jo Kongas; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Roger was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister-in-law: Guy (Juanita) Holman and Ivan Holman; two sisters and four brothers-in-law: Pearl (Russell) Spall, Ellen (Eugene) Nicholson, Michael Fish, and Lee Weaver; one niece, Linda Nicholson; and one nephew, Doug Holman. Funeral services for Roger Dale Holman will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Roger Carr and Pastor Bruce Stephenson officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Memorials may be given to Don & Dana Myers Cancer Center.
