Ruth Maples, age 92, of Franklin, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Hickory Creek of Franklin surrounded by her loving family.
Ruth was a member of New Life Methods Church in Fairland.
Mrs. Maples was a homemaker, and she was a volunteer at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin and Hoosier Christian Village.
She was a member of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Medora Senior Citizens, and Eastern Star.
Born on September 18, 1931, in Sparksville, she was the daughter of James T. and Ethel Myers Watts, both of whom preceded her in death. On September 6, 1951, in Medora, she married James I. Maples, and he preceded her in death on June 2, 2006.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita Miller; two grandchildren: Jessica Farmer and John E. Miller; three great-grandchildren: Ashley Heagy, Makayla Heagy, and Robert J.D. Heagy; three step-grandchildren: Jason Miller, Daniel Miller, and Josh Miller; five step-great-grandchildren: Whitney Miller, Sidney Miller, Sadie Miller, Jonah Miller, and Ryan Miller; and one half-brother, James O. Watts.
Besides her parents and her husband, Ruth was also preceded in death by an infant sister; son-in-law, David Miller; half-sister, Burma Watts; and one sister and brother-in-law, Emogene and Arnold Whitaker.
Funeral services for Ruth Maples will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Mitchell McIntyre officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
Interment will be at Dixon Chapel-Proctor Cemetery.
