Sherman Dale Brock, age 92, of Freetown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, January 6, 2026, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.
Sherman regularly attended Freetown Community Church.
Mr. Brock served in the United States Army for two years and worked as a supervisor at Cummins Engine Co. until retiring in 1985.
Sherman loved and adored the land where he was born and raised. He had a deep love for his family and especially cherished his time with his grandchildren. He felt truly blessed to be alongside his grandchildren when they were growing up.
He enjoyed working outdoors alongside his wife and family, relaxing on the porch, and driving his beloved blue Ford tractor. He took joy in rides on the Polaris and tractor. He had a gift for storytelling and was a devoted fan of Kentucky basketball.
Born on June 24, 1933, at his home in Freetown, Sherman was the son of Herbert Leo and Oma Mae (Scott) Brock, both of whom preceded him in death. On July 12, 1957, he married Shirley Mae Cooper, and she preceded him in death on January 9, 2019.
Survivors include one daughter, Melanie (David) Burgess of Columbus; three sons: David (Mary) Brock of Seymour, Jeffrey Brock of Seymour, and Dennis (Teresa) Brock of Freetown; six grandchildren: Cassie Brock, Tyler (Melissa) Burgess, Andrew (Megan) Burgess, Conner (Emily) Burgess, Denise Brock, and Peyton Brock; and six great-grandchildren: Josephine, Colette, Rory, Grayson, Warren, and Levi.
Funeral services for Sherman Dale Brock will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor T.J. Kummerfeldt officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47, and Vietnam Vets 7.
Interment will follow at Old Regular Baptist Cemetery.
