Thomas Persinger, Jr., age 86, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.
Mr. Persinger was a member of the United Methodist Church for 64 years. He retired from Cummins Engine Co. after 37 years of employment, and he was a charter member of Hickory Hills Golf Club.
He loved his church family, his family and friends, and Brownstown Athletics. He loved spending time with his family, especially traveling with his wife, and socializing with his friends. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, and attending Brownstown Central High School sporting events.
Born on February 5, 1934, in Brownstown, he was the son of Thomas and Nora Gater Persinger, both of whom preceded him in death. On February 18, 1956, in Medora, he married Carol Warren, and she survives in Brownstown.
Survivors also include two daughters: Jill Ann (Steve) Burbrink of Mandeville, Louisiana, and Marsha Jo (Michael) Samreny of Butler, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren: Brian Phillip (Heather) Burbrink, Allison Kathleen (Anthony) Allio, Benjamin Kiel (Allison) Burbrink, John Phillip Shue (fiancé Jordan Hopper), Ethan Andrew Shue, James Samreny and Rachel Rowland; 14 great-grandchildren: Ava Burbrink, Emery Burbrink, Elijah Burbrink, Liam Burbrink, Annalee Burbrink, Siena Allio, Dominic Allio, Benjamin Burbrink, Liliana Samreny, Jaxon Samreny, Selahbel Samreny, Michael Samreny, Evie Rowland and August Rowland.
Besides his parents, Tom was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Amber Daniels; three sisters: Theda Williamson, Betty Burnside and Joan Jackson; and two brothers: George Persinger and Ben Persinger.
Funeral services for Thomas Persinger, Jr. will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Rob Kirts officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. will be practicing social distancing according to CDC guidelines. Masks are required when entering the funeral home.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
