Verla Faye Norman, age 81, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019, at her residence. Verla retired after 27 years from the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi and was an avid golfer. She was past Women's Club Champion at Hickory Hills Golf Course. Her family was a very important part of her life. She also enjoyed playing Euchre. Born on September 12, 1937, she was the daughter of William and Gladys Whitted Bailey, both of whom preceded her in death. On July 23, 1955, she married Donald L. Norman and he preceded her in death on September 23, 2017. Survivors include one son, Mark (Peggy) Norman of Brownstown; one daughter, Teresa (Kevin) Dorsey of Valrico, Florida; one brother, Duane (Dana) Bailey of Bedford; five sisters: Marian (Joe) Bartlett of Bedford; Marilyn Grissom of Fort Myers, Florida; Ingrid Ann Hornback (Arvel) of Bargersville; Rita (Raymond) Gray of Haleysburg; and Shana (Mike) Hobson of Bedford; seven grandchildren: Kyle Norman (Amanda Riechenbacher), Allison Stuckwisch (Daniel Leavy), Derek Norman, Caitlyn Norman, Eric (Tiffany) Dorsey, Christina Dorsey (Roberto Egea), and Jordan Dorsey; eight great-grandchildren: Brayton Norman, Chandler Norman, Addison Norman, Hudson Stuckwisch, Preston Leavy, Natasha Egea, Elise Dorsey, Oliver Dorsey, and Elliot Dorsey; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to both parents and her husband, Verla was also preceded in death by five brothers: Carl Bailey, Roger Bailey, Lester Bailey, Dennis Bailey, and Ronnie Bailey. Funeral services for Verla Faye Norman will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Doug Pogue and Pastor Mitchell McIntyre officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Mundell Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Brownstown Christian Church Move the Mountain Fund or Hickory Hills Golf Course.
