Virginia H. Summa, age 101, Brownstown, passed away at 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown. Virginia was a member of the Brownstown Christian Church. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. She was a clerk and stenographer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She was a member of Eastern Star Lodge 264, Brownstown. Born on September 5, 1912, in Vallonia, she was the daughter of S.M. and Myrtle Lockman Hotchkiss Sr., both of whom preceded her in death. In May 1954, she married Eugene G. Summa at Speedway Christian Church. He preceded her in death in 1970. Survivors include one sister, Myrtle Esther Hotchkiss, Brownstown; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Hartley Hotchkiss and S.M. Hotchkiss Jr.; and three sisters, Mary E. Hotchkiss, Grace (Hotchkiss) Sullivan and Ruth Jane Waskom. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Spurgeon Funeral Home Inc., Brownstown, with Brian Richard and Doug Pogue officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Brownstown Christian Church Building Fund.
