Wayne Tormoehlen, age 87, of Vallonia, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.
Mr. Tormoehlen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, where he held various church offices, including Elder, Financial Secretary and being a member of the church Cemetery Board. He was a member of the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, worked at Cummins Engine Co. for 11 years, MoorMan's Feed Company, where he enjoyed hauling feed, and was a farmer. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed driving his bulldozer. He was known to his family and friends as "Gramps".
Born on August 4, 1929 in Grassy Fork Township, he was the son of Louis and Lena Wessel Tormoehlen, both of whom preceded him in death. On October 25, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, he married Mary Lou Caudill and she survives in Vallonia.
Survivors also include one daughter, Carol (James) Franklin of Vallonia; three sons: John (Brenda) Tormoehlen, Marty (Diane) Tormoehlen and Randy Tormoehlen all of Vallonia; three brothers: Delbert (Alberta) Tormoehlen of Seymour, Glenn (Carol) Tormoehlen and Leslie (Betty) Tormoehlen, both of Brownstown; one sister, Wilma Benter of Seymour; eight grandchildren: Angie (Kyle) Kerkhof, Barry (Christina) Franklin, Brooke (John) Cahill, Brandon (Mallory) Tormoehlen, Jaclyn (Nathan) Jackson, Whitney (Kagney) Fritz, Michael (Autumn) Tormoehlen and Shane (Katie) Tormoehlen; and 14 great-grandchildren: Hannah and Drew Kerkhof, Marisa and Brady Franklin, Madeline and Hank Cahill, Annalise and Isaac Jackson, Garrison and Graham Fritz, Jillian and Emma Tormoehlen and Bryce and Kinley Tormoehlen. In addition to both parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers: Elmer Tormoehlen and Robert Tormoehlen; and six sisters: Leona Peters, Luella Stuckwisch, Laura Peters, Edna Stuckwisch, Elnora Lucas and Earlene Tormoehlen.
Funeral services for Wayne Tormoehlen will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan with Pastor Martin Keller officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan.
Interment will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Old Wegan Cemetery.
