Wilbern “Chester” Deaton, age 81, of Norman, passed away on Thursday evening, September 10, 2026, at his home.

Mr. Deaton dedicated many years to Arvin Industries before retiring. He also proudly and honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army.

Chester loved his family dearly and he had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing.

Born on January 9, 1945, in Allair, Kentucky, Chester was the son of Estel and Mary (Brewer) Deaton, both of whom preceded him in death. On July 24, 1975, he married Joan Smith, and she preceded him in death on February 17, 2013.

Survivors include two sons: James (Ginger) Deaton of Brownstown and Bobby (Angie) Petro of Norman; three daughters: Lori Deaton of North Vernon, Sonni (Blake) Robbins of Commiskey, and Jera (Casey) Shelton of Hayden; grandchildren: Rikki (Dwight) Gregory, Jamie Deaton, Matthew Deaton, Tevis Deaton, Johnathon Deaton, and Shane Fox; and great-grandchildren: Philip Rogers, Malachiah Rogers, Brooklinn Altepeter, Eli Shelton, Landon Shelton, Lani Shelton, and Tucker Gregory.

Chester was also preceded in death by one son, Brad Deaton; and daughter-in-law, Ginger Deaton.

The family has chosen cremation, and a private Celebration of Life will be held by the family.
