Obituary

Willard "Bill" Martin Benter, age 90, of Seymour, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Bill was a life-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers, where he was also a member of the Sauers Men's Club. Mr. Benter was a life-long dairy and grain farmer, as farming was his passion. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, and he was a member of the Lutheran Men's Bowling League for 58 years. Bill loved his family, and he also loved family and friend gatherings and playing Euchre. Born on June 6, 1931, at the Benter home place, Willard was the son of Martin and Anna Darlage Benter, both of whom preceded him in death. On April 20, 1958, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dudleytown, he married Verna Claycamp and she survives in Seymour. Survivors also include one son, Steven Benter of Seymour; two daughters: Ruth (Jeff) Pollen of Seymour, and Sandra (Gary) Heideman of Seymour; one sister, Luella Holle; four grandchildren: Erica (Darren) Paul, Drew (Lynsey) Heideman, Lauren (Eric) Cyliax, and Nathan Pollen; two great-grandchildren: Kaden Paul and Mason Paul; brother-in-law, Bill Wessel; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by one son, James Benter; two brothers: Fredrick Benter and Harold Benter; four sisters: Edna Stuckwisch, Clara Boyd, Mabel Pollert, and Esther Wessel; two sisters-in-law: Ella Benter and Wilma Benter; and four brothers-in-law: Andy Stuckwisch, Mike Boyd, Arthur Pollert, and Lawrence Holle. Funeral services for Willard "Bill" Martin Benter will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 18, 2021, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers, with Pastor Craig Muhlbach officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers. Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47, and Vietnam Vets 7. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers, Trinity Lutheran High School or donor's choice.
