Dr. William "Bill" Bernard Nelson, age 86 of Brownstown, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, surrounded by his loving family.
Dr. Nelson served in the United States Air Force from October 25, 1956, to April 16, 1966. He worked as a dedicated dental technician for many years, and he was a proud member of the American Legion.
Bill deeply loved his family and especially cherished watching old movies with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, genealogy, listening to classical music, and tinkering.
Born on June 18, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio, Bill was the son of Bernard and Ellen (Waldren) Nelson, both of whom preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Ellen Herzner of Seymour; son-in-law, James Deaton of Brownstown; seven grandchildren: Kevin Nelson, Karen Nelson, Jennifer Herzner (Kwan) Lin, Nikki Herzner, Ruth Schulz, Michelle (Billy) Purdue, and Erica (Bryan) Lorenz; numerous great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.
Dr. Nelson was also preceded in death by one son, William "Billie" Nelson; and one daughter, Ginger Deaton.
A private graveside service will be held pursuant to Bill's request at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.
A Celebration of Life for Dr. William "Bill" Bernard Nelson will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the home of Terri Umble, a family friend, at 2264 N. County Road 225 W., Brownstown.
