Larry Spurgeon was born in Brownstown in 1945. Growing up, he actively participated in his family's funeral home business, assisting his parents, H. Jack and Margaret Spurgeon.
In 1964, Larry completed his embalming and funeral director schooling before pursuing further education at Indiana State University and Indiana Business College.
After his education, Larry served in the US Air Force Reserves and later became the Jackson County Probation Officer, dedicating 30 years to this role. Throughout his career, he remained involved with the Spurgeon Funeral Home, eventually transitioning to full-time work in the business in 2001.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Larry was actively engaged in serving his community. He was a member of various organizations and volunteered his time to church and local projects.
Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Sue, and their sons, along with their families. Doug, Suzan, and their son Chandler, as well as Todd, Joyce, and their sons Justin and Will. He is also survived by his brother Jack and wife Doris, and his sister Sally Jo Bogard.
