Harold Andrew “Mick” Rodgers, 76, passed away at 12:14 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019, in Orlando, Florida. He was born on August 29, 1943, in Bell City, Missouri, to Jessie and Willa Midelton Rodgers. After his discharge from the United States Navy, he moved to Columbus, Indiana, and eventually to Becks Grove Road in Brown County, Indiana. Following retirement, he and his wife became snowbirds in Leesburg, Florida. Mr. Rodgers was employed at Hartup Tool & Die and Cummins Engine Company before deciding to try his hand at meat-cutting, which became his life career. He did his OJT at Deano’s Market in Ogilville, Indiana, and was also employed at Smith’s Grocery in Ogilville, and Nolting’s SuperValu in Edinburgh, Indiana, and Brownstown, Indiana. Mick served many years as a baseball coach for his sons’ teams in the Bartholomew County Little League organization, representing teams from Ogilville. He was a member of Walker Chapel Wesleyan Church in Rosstown, Indiana, the American Legion, and the Holiday RV Village Yacht Club in Leesburg. Mr. Rodgers is survived by his wife, Susan Bean Rodgers; three sons: Kevin (Kelly) of Porter, Texas, Mark of Leesburg, and Steve (Jennifer) of Columbus, Indiana; grandchildren: Samantha (Andrew) Schrank of Lithopolis, Ohio, Cameron Rodgers of Chicago, Illinois, Bryce (Callie) Fredericksen, Blaine, Mia and Sierra Rodgers, all of Columbus, Indiana, and Peyton Rodgers of Porter, Texas; two great-grandchildren: Joseph Rodgers and Xavier Fredericksen of Columbus; four brothers: Wayne of Leesburg, Larry (JoAnn) of Sikeston of Missouri, Jerry (Donna) Tupelo of Mississippi, and Frank (Melba) of Mountain Home, Arkansas; and one sister, Linda Boykin of Sikeston, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Mick in death were his parents; brothers: Jesse and Jim, both of Columbus, and Anthony “Butch” Howard of Tennessee; sisters: Ruby Taylor and Della McManus of Mississippi, Faye Fritz, and Brenda Sue Rodgers; and infants, Roy Dean and Stella of Sikeston, Missouri. Reverend Roy Hendershot of Walker Chapel will conduct a Celebration of Life service at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., at a later date. Following the service, interment will be in the Memorial Garden of Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown. Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Vets 7.
