Cremation Options Designed Around Your Family

Each of our cremation packages includes the basic services of our funeral directors and staff, the transfer of your loved one into our care, preparation, and the crematory fee. From there, you choose how and where your family would like to gather.

The Community Gathering

This package blends time honored tradition with cremation. It includes a visitation at our facilities followed by a funeral service the next day in our chapel, your Seymour church, or another facility, along with embalming and an allowance toward a permanent urn.

The Single Day Service with Visitation

For families who would like everything on one day, this option holds the visitation and the funeral back to back, either in our chapel, at your church, or at another location. It is a meaningful choice when relatives are traveling in from out of town.

The Friends & Family Goodbye

A same day memorial service in our chapel gives family and friends a time to share memories and support one another. It includes an alternative container and an allowance toward a permanent urn from our Tier 3 selections.

The Private Informal Goodbye

Sometimes a family simply wants a quiet moment together to say farewell. This package provides respectful cremation care with a temporary urn, leaving you free to plan a gathering later, on your own timeline.

Cremation Jewelry and Keepsakes

Cremation jewelry, fingerprint pendants in sterling silver or gold, memorial blankets, and custom portraits offer comforting ways to keep a loved one close long after the service.

Solidified Remains

This innovative option transforms cremated remains into 40 to 60 smooth, natural stones, each collection unique in color and texture. Families can hold them, share them among relatives, or scatter them in places that mattered.

Cremation Preplanning

If you already know cremation is your wish, putting it in writing now spares your family uncertainty later. Start with our online planning form, or ask us to meet you in Seymour to talk it through.

A Seymour Neighbor You Can Trust With Cremation

Cremation raises a lot of questions, and you deserve straightforward answers. Our team walks you through each package, explains what is included, and never pressures you toward more than your family wants or needs.

Since 2021, Spurgeon Funeral Home has been owned by Luke and Caitlin Nolting, lifelong Jackson County residents. Luke grew up attending Seymour schools and remains active at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, and our staff includes funeral director Clint Hackman, who also serves with the Seymour Fire Department. We know the churches, the families, and the traditions that make this community special.

Most of all, we believe every life deserves a tribute as unique as the person who lived it. With memorial videos, photo collages, personalized printed materials, and keepsakes designed for cremation families, we help you create a farewell that feels personal from beginning to end.

About Seymour, Indiana

Seymour is the largest city in Jackson County and has long been known as the Crossroads of Southern Indiana. US 50, US 31, and Interstate 65 all meet here, and the railroads that once crossed in town helped Seymour grow into the commercial heart of the county. For many families, that crossroads spirit shows up in everyday life: neighbors who have known each other for decades, churches that fill on Sunday mornings, and Friday nights spent cheering on the Owls.

The city carries a proud history. Freeman Field, on the southwest side of town, served as an Army Air Forces advanced training base during World War II and graduated more than 4,000 twin engine pilots. Today the Freeman Army Airfield Museum preserves that story. Seymour is also home to the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts, the annual Seymour Oktoberfest, and Schneck Medical Center, while the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge sits just east of the city. It is a place where small town values and deep roots still matter, and that is exactly how we approach caring for the families who live here.

Cremation Questions from Seymour Families

Can we still have a visitation if we choose cremation?

Yes. Our Community Gathering and Single Day Service with Visitation packages both include a visitation before cremation, so friends and family can see your loved one one last time. The service can be held in our chapel, at your church in Seymour, or at another facility.

Can a memorial service be held in Seymour after cremation?

Yes. Many Seymour families choose to gather at their home church or another familiar place in town. We coordinate the details, set up any photos, videos, or keepsakes you would like displayed, and make sure the day unfolds the way you envisioned.

Is an urn included in your cremation packages?

Our Community Gathering, Single Day Service with Visitation, and Friends & Family Goodbye packages include an allowance toward a permanent urn from our Tier 3 selections. The Private Informal Goodbye includes a temporary urn, and you are always welcome to upgrade.

What options do we have for cremated remains?

Families may keep remains in an urn at home, place them in a cemetery, or scatter them in a meaningful place. We also offer cremation jewelry, fingerprint keepsakes, and solidified remains, which transform cremated remains into a collection of 40 to 60 smooth stones that can be held, shared, or scattered.

Will someone from Spurgeon come to Seymour to meet with us?

Yes. If it is easier for your family, we are glad to travel to Seymour to talk through cremation options and complete arrangements. Simply call (812) 358-2252 and let us know where and when works best for you.
